What are the travel soccer associations in NoVA that focus on player development and fun rather than cut throat competition? Reston Soccer was touting their player development at the U8-U9 level - the parents were told before tryouts that they would create at least 2 U9 girls teams (WAGS and ODSL) and 2 U9 Boys teams (NCSL and ODSL) and, if enough kids turned up, possibly 3 teams of each.
After tryouts, the parents were told that they did not have enough kids to make up 2 teams so they were going to only do 1 team. Of approximately 25 girls who tried out, a max of 12 were selected. It was similar odds for the boys. This seems like a bait and switch to the parents that have good competent players but not superstars at age 7. FYI - the only reason we considered travel was to get better quality coaches. Our experience in rec is the coaching is really hit and miss.
