In this edition, forward Natalie Spooner and blueliners Courtney Birchard and Catherine Ward share their thoughts heading into the gold medal game. OTTAWA, Ont. – Once the three round robin games were over, we had a few days without games. Saturday, April 6 was a free day to relax. Most people went with their family for the day for some sightseeing and then out to eat. It was a nice, much-needed recovery day before the really important games started. Sunday, April 7 we were right back at it, with a workout in the morning, then a practice in the afternoon. We all got our legs back under us and were ready to take on Russia in our semifinal game. When Monday, April 8 arrived, we were ready for the Russians; this was it, we needed to win this game. Russia started the game strong and their teams goalie made a lot of nice saves through the first period. The Russians were tough to play against, but once we were able to get one goal on them, the momentum shifted in our favour, and we were able to capitalize on more chances. We now move on past semifinals and think about the final game, and our fight to defend the gold medal. We know the U.S. is a skilled team and it is going to be a hard battle to the end. Were ready. These are the games we live to play in, and we want to make our country proud!
