1. Suspect in Va. missing teen case appears in court
LOVINGSTON, Va. -
The man arrested in the case of a missing Nelson County teenager will remain behind bars until a January court appearance.

Forty-eight-year-old Randy Allen Taylor of Lovingston appeared Tuesday in Nelson County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Taylor was arrested Sunday and charged with abduction in connection with the disappearance of 17-year-old Alexis Murphy.

Murphy was last seen Aug. 3 by her family. Her car was found in the parking lot of a multiplex in Charlottesville three days later.

Media outlets report that Taylor appeared in person, handcuffed, shackled and wearing a gray jail-issued jumpsuit.

Taylor was appointed a lawyer and a court date was set for Jan. 9.

Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin didn't comment after the hearing but said more information was forthcoming.

2. Registered sex offender charged in murder of St. Mary's County woman Moneta Jo Strickland

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. -
A registered sex offender has been arrested and charged with the murder of a St. Mary’s County woman.

32-year-old Moneta Jo Strickland was found dead along the Three Notch Trail in Mechanicsville, Md., last Friday after she had been reported missing. Police say she was last seen the day before and was believed to be jogging on the trail. She died from blunt force trauma to the body.

Authorities arrested 31-year-old John Morris Quade Jr. on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and robbery.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office says Quade became the primary suspect after surveillance video from a business showed Quade and his vehicle in the area during the time frame of the homicide. Quade also matched the description of a suspicious person seen on the trail by a witness prior to the incident. At a search in Quade’s home, detectives found evidence linking him to the murder.

Strickland lived with her mother in Mechanicsville. She worked as a nurse at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital and was set to be married in March
